Izindaba is an isiZulu word meaning news, stories, rumours or people’s affairs. In this track, it points to gossip and interference — that habit of getting involved in other people’s business instead of focusing on your own.
The vocal came to me after a quiet spell away from making music. I hadn’t been in the studio for some time, and Izindaba was the track that pulled me back in. There was something about the vocal and its message that immediately connected with where I was at the time.
The production is deliberately deep and spacious, allowing the groove, percussion and vocal to carry the track without overcrowding it. The repeated vocal phrases give the track a conversational quality, reinforcing the idea behind the title.
It is also a milestone for me: my first release signed to another label, Afreeka Records. After stepping away from music for a period, having Izindaba become the track that brought me back makes this release particularly meaningful.
"Proud to announce a significant milestone: my first release with Afreeka Records."
